Happy New Year!

It's been quite a while since I've properly blogged here as I ended up spending most of the past year "mini-blogging" my photography work over on Google Plus instead. I'm hoping to do a little better this year and wanted to start off with my favourite photos I took in 2013. This was a year I really grew in doing post-processing work, having acquired a couple suites of great tools (OnOne's and Nik's to be specific). I also surprised myself by starting to do a lot more work with black and white conversions, which I wasn't really interested in before.

It was pretty tough to narrow this down to only twelve, but here's what I came up with. Hope you enjoy and here's to a great 2014! Cheers!

2013 Weekly Photo Project

Despite not being able to successfully finish last year's Project 52, I wanted to challenge myself again this year. To that end, I've joined the folks over at the G+ Weekly Photo Project for 2013.

Last week's theme was Winter (or Summer, depending on your hemisphere) and here is the photo I submitted for it:

This was taken shortly after the heavy snowfall we got here in Calgary the week before. In addition, I've been on a bit of a black-and-white experimentation kick after treating myself to a copy of the latest version of the OnOne Suite 7 set of post-processing tools.

Looking forward to taking on the challenge again!

Winter Walk Revisited

One of the things I decided to do this year is to step back into the archives to review, cleanup, and reorganize my photo libraries. In addition to that, I'm going to start collecting and putting together a better set of photos that I can call a portfolio and eventually add to a print run or several. To that end, over the next little while, I'm going to try posting these on a semi-regular basis here on the blog. I'm going to do away with the "Friday's Photo" category and just try to post whenever I can – at least once a week, but possibly more.

For this first post, we go back a couple of years ago, when I went on one of my first photo walks during a warm day in the middle of winter. At that point, I was just getting started in photography armed with a Canon Rebel XTi (aka 400D) and its kit lenses. I probably took several dozen shots that day, but I decided to only pick out a few of my better ones.

Friday's Photo – Distant Rockies

I had mentioned before that I had a pretty decent view of the Rocky Mountains from my office. I had my 70-200 with me one day, so I thought I would try to see what I could capture with it from there. Here's one of the shots I took, which includes some of the great fall colours in the neighbourhood.
