My latest photos for the SWU Soccer Club's Tier 2 BU18 team are now available for viewing!

It's been a fun season, with so many close games that could really have gone either way. Sadly, we just missed qualifying for the Alberta Provincials this year. Hopefully I was able to capture something for the boys and you can find some good memories here for you to enjoy!

Here's the link: SWU 2016 Outdoor Photo Gallery

Cheers!

Project52 – Wrong Ball

I was up in Edmonton again for my son's indoor soccer tournament this past weekend. One of the fields there had a great vantage point on the back wall next to the keeper via some large plexiglass windows. I'm still sorting through all my shots, but I thought that this one fit well with the 'Depth of Field' theme for this week's Project52 photo. Not sure where it came from, but it looks like someone tossed one of those super bouncy balls onto the field and it landed in the keeper's area.

Happy Canada Day! We're on the road to beautiful British Columbia for one of my son's soccer tournaments. I'm hoping to get at least a few chances to take some shots of the great scenery there and will hopefully have more to post about when we get back.

In the meantime, our photo today is a shot of the sidelines from one of the better soccer pitches they've played on so far this season. It was some really lush and thick grass that was well maintained and neatly trimmed. I was trying to play around with the depth of field and really liked how this turned out.

Friday's Photo – First to the Ball

Well, the weather here in Calgary has turned around and the outdoor soccer season has finally gotten under way! Not to mention the allergy season, ugh.

This shot was taken at halftime at one of my son's games while I was watching my daughter play with a soccer ball on the sidelines. While the motion isn't readily apparent in the image, she was actually running at a pretty good clip for an almost-two-year-old. Or perhaps I'm getting old. Anyway, while processing this shot, I was tinkering around with the built-in filters (or 'Presets') in Aperture 3. What you see below is the 'Toy Camera' effect applied to the photo. This basically amounts to a bit of vignetting, lighting, shadows, and saturation tweaking. I like how it turned out, but what do you think?
