One of the great weather features we get in Calgary are the chinook winds. These typically bring in uncharacteristically warm weather in the middle of winter conditions. Along with the winds, we often see some great cloud formations through the days and nights. This shot was taken on such a morning on my way in to work. I love how the pinks and purples are reminiscent of a big pile of cotton candy in the sky.
Been feeling a little under the weather the last couple of days, so I'm a little late getting to today's photo. Technically, it's still Friday, so here it is! :)
A couple of weeks ago, at one of my son's soccer games, the weather was pretty inconsistent. Alternating between rain and sun throughout the game, it finally calmed down and started to warm up after the game had ended. The sky was filled with a lot of puffy clouds and I couldn't resist shooting a series of photos intended for stitching into a panorama. This panoramic was stitched together from only three shots that day.
This week's photo is another shot of the sky shortly before sunset almost a year ago. This was among the batch of photos from my first month with my shiny new 7D. For this shot, I was hoping to get a nice view of the sky as it darkened, but being in the city, the power lines and street lights tend to get in the way. Also, I was out and about running errands, so I couldn't get to a spot with a clearer view. Instead, I opted to try silhouetting the lights and power lines against the sky. Looking back on this, I probably could have composed the shot a little better, but I still like how it turned out.

We've been seeing a lot of incredible sunrises and sunsets in Calgary lately. Sadly, I'm typically either already in the office or at the kids' sports activities. Today I was able to catch some brilliant sunrises on my way home from dropping the kids off at school. While I missed out on some of the bright reds (you should check out @tremaine's Photostream for a few of those), I did manage to catch some of the bright oranges.
