I have one more flower to share from the zoo trip last summer. Here are a bunch of flowers that were hanging in front of a tree in the main area of the conservatory. Unfortunately, I again have no idea what these flowers, since I wasn't clever enough to photograph the label for them. Looking back at the photo, I wish I had positioned myself and framed it better to avoid the larger white flowers behind this bunch as I think they distract from the purple flowers in the foreground.

Friday's Photo – Orange Flower
Today's photo is a simple shot of an orange flower I saw at the Calgary Zoo when we went there last July. This was taken in the Enmax Conservatory along with a number of other plants. Of course, I have no idea what the flower is called, as I didn't photograph the label next to it. Lesson learned – when shooting clearly labelled subjects, also take a shot of the label for future reference.
Friday's Photo – Butterfly
A couple of months ago, we took the kids to the Calgary Zoo and wandered around for an afternoon. With camera in hand, I took the opportunity to try shooting some of the plants and animals. I hadn't been there in many many years, so some of the exhibits were either new or just new-to-me. One area I didn't remember was the butterfly room and it certainly provided a lot of opportunity for some nice shots such as this one:
In fact, this was one of the many favourite shots from that day, so I ended up ordering a print of it on canvas from the folks over at 44 Wide. It arrived last week and it looks great!
Friday's Photo - Storm Clouds
A brief thunder storm rolled through our neighbourhood last night pelting us with some heavy rain and pea-to-grape-sized hail. Here are a couple of shots of the neat clouds as they were leaving our area.
Friday's Photo – 2011 Calgary Stampede
We pause from the shots taken in B.C. to bring you some photos from the Calgary Stampede last week. For those unfamiliar with it, it's a western-themed carnival/fair/expo type of event. There's all kinds of things happening during this, including rodeos, chuckwagon races, concerts, and other performances. Of course, there's also the midway fairgrounds where there are innumerable food vendors, rides, games, and far too many opportunities to spend money.
