This week's Project52 theme is 'Summer/Winter'. As it's technically winter here in the northern hemisphere, that was the direction I took when I went looking for something representative of this theme. Unfortunatley, the weather here in Calgary has been unusually mild so far, with temperatures during the day regularly above zero and even venturing into the teens, thanks to our chinooks.

As such, there isn't really much around that fits well with this week's theme. However, there are a lot of puddles all over the place and when they freeze overnight, they create some neat crystalline patterns. Here's a couple of the shots I was happy with.

One of the things I decided to do this year is to step back into the archives to review, cleanup, and reorganize my photo libraries. In addition to that, I'm going to start collecting and putting together a better set of photos that I can call a portfolio and eventually add to a print run or several. To that end, over the next little while, I'm going to try posting these on a semi-regular basis here on the blog. I'm going to do away with the "Friday's Photo" category and just try to post whenever I can – at least once a week, but possibly more.

For this first post, we go back a couple of years ago, when I went on one of my first photo walks during a warm day in the middle of winter. At that point, I was just getting started in photography armed with a Canon Rebel XTi (aka 400D) and its kit lenses. I probably took several dozen shots that day, but I decided to only pick out a few of my better ones.

The weather forecast has us expecting a brown Christmas here in Calgary this year. We've been enjoying some unusually warm weather over the last couple of weeks, which has helped melt away a lot of the white stuff that had accumulated a few weeks ago. Despite this lack of winter, I noticed these couple of shots of fresh fallen snow I had taken a couple of years ago while I was digging around my archives doing some cleanup.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.. A big Merry Christmas to you and yours and all the best for a Happy New Year! Cheers!

Winter has finally made its presence known around here with our first big snowfall earlier this week. I haven't had much chance to go out and shoot, so here's a shot of some bare trees I took last winter at a snow covered soccer/baseball field. I like the silhouetting of the trees against the late evening sky.
