We pause from the shots taken in B.C. to bring you some photos from the Calgary Stampede last week. For those unfamiliar with it, it's a western-themed carnival/fair/expo type of event. There's all kinds of things happening during this, including rodeos, chuckwagon races, concerts, and other performances. Of course, there's also the midway fairgrounds where there are innumerable food vendors, rides, games, and far too many opportunities to spend money.
It's been a few years since I've been to the Stampede, so I thought I would wander down this year with the family to take in the sights and fill up on food of questionable nutritional value (mmm, mini donuts). While I brought the ol' camera with me, I just wasn't feeling very creative or inspired to shoot very much there. Maybe I'm getting old or something, but for some reason, I seem to remember enjoying going to Stampede more in the past. This time, I think I was done after a good couple of hours walking around the grounds, even though we stayed around 6 or 7 hours to give the kids enough time to get the value out of their ride passes. At any rate, I did manage to get a few shots. I did want to stick around for some night shots and long exposures, especially for the fireworks, but the exhaustion had really set in by the time the kids were done, so we just packed it in. Oh well, maybe next time!
